  • Gamma for Material Editor preview

Could you add a way to show materials thumbnails with a custom gamma setting? I mean, when we are using tonemapping to gamma 2.2, materials doesn't look like render, so it's not easy to set proper material apparence.

Hi. Gamma 2.2 in tone mapping settings without any extra luts is incorrect. It doesn't give you phisically correct result.

Oh? Max and file settings are 2.2, so i though tonemapping also should be 2.2. Exposure and color looks more correct than with tonemapped gamma 1.0, so what i do wrong?

You have to use gamma 2.2 in 3ds max settings, but gamma 1.0 in fstorm tonemapping settings. if you use gamma 2.2 in 3ds max settings and gamma 2.2 in tonemapping settings, then result gamma is 4.4 which is incorrect.
In case you want to make shadows softer and avoid overexposed areas, you have to reduce tonemapping contrast, reduce burn value (to nagative range) and increase tonemapping exposure.
