  • Comparison between FStorm and V-Ray

Hey guys, just did a test here with a old vray scene, called Monkeys.

    Better quality: http://imgur.com/a/Ys5yg

Click conversion and tweak some materials, FOV (still different), but i couldn't make the glass loke the same, and it's not a FOV problem because i test without first.

The pros of FStorm are, insane speed on GTX1080 + GTX970, render in 20 minutes, VRay should take a couple hours, don't remember (maybe 3h on a i5 3470). Easier to tweak materials, lighting, glare, tone mapping (love it), very stable.

The cons, for this project at least, i don't have render elements (i'am missing something?). But i use the elements from VRay to pos production, so we can compare the boths render better. In fact, i put the render of FStorm in the place of the Vray render on Photoshop, so all the adjusts, layers are 100% the same.

I will test FStorm now on larger scenes, but right now i'am seeing no reason to not love it and use it. Ahh and i miss the real zoom feature of Vray RT, its very good to tweak materials, BUT i discover that you can increase the FStorm resolution without losing the buffer, and that is awesome too!!

Sorry for my english, and thanks for this amazing render!

Nice scene and really good conversion! Looks like FS is less noisy, cleaner, and better bump mapping (Table etc)? Thanks for sharing this!

The speed tests are not comparable in your case. i5 vs 1080+970 is not equal at all...

What exactly do you mean by increasing the resolution without loosing the buffer?

Man nice idea! I will test this scene with Vray RT!

When you increase the resolution you don't "compile" the scene all over again, like vray you know?

The bump must be the settings, i have to tweak them, it comes to FStorm pretty weak
Major diference i think are in illumination, the rest, noise etc you can make equal
