  • FStorm vs Octane

You could probably argue that the Octane scene could be optimized more, but it's nice to watch

I'm an Octane user, and started to know and test Fstorm two days ago with just with some converted scene (Octane projects and Evermotion scenes), not with complete projects started from zero. I think that It's quite impossible to judge two engine (one pretty new born like Fstorm) with just one scene.
As for the test I made I can say:
    - Fstorm has got a better conversion function ( all the scene that I converted from Vray to Octane needed heavy adjustments not only for the materials but even for the lighting, while with Fstorm they where pretty close to the Vray version directly from the conversion)
-Fstorm seems to create a better lighting, in the image attached in the post ( http://www.fstormrender.com/forum/fo...onversion-test ) the ceiling has got a good illumination (all kernel values at default), in Octane (even pushing the "diffuse depth" at 20, the ceiling still remain incredibly dark (absolutely needed to be adjusted in post)

As for the speed I cannot refer nothing as I've made too few tests with Fstorm. Hope that someone share its impresions and tests (...i'm sure that there are different Octane user in this Community )

      Another Octane user over here
Started converting some projects we did with Octane to FStorm for testing and will post some images soon. You're right, the converter works almost flawless with V-Ray and Octane. I think adaptivity makes a BIG difference regarding render time.
Would be great to reach more users this time than with Octane - judging from the forum posts over there it was mainly used by amateurs or hardware enthusiasts.
I guess most people and especially big vfx studios are still sceptical when it comes to GPU rendering. And they have a good reason; Corona is a great engine and made impressive progression in a very short time. Also V-Ray seems far away from vanishing. Although with Redshift now GPU rendering could be back on the map...

I come from Octane too. As an architect thus doing archviz mainly, I find fstorm much more suitable. The lighting system just rocks.
