  • Can't see my environment background?

I'm very new to Fstorm and very impressed so far, interiors and product shots are wonderful. I don't get the same results on exteriors unfortunately, how do I adjust the strength of my environment map?

I have an hdri in the Fstorm environment folder, how can I adjust it? Only with camera exposure? How can I add a back plate?

Hit F10 on the Keyboard -> FStorm Setting -> Enviornment Tab -> Multiplier

And how do I adjust my background plate, it seems to ignore the Max background?

you can adjust the gamma in the FStorm Bitmap that you have in your material editor ... for the background i dont know ,i didnt use it so far because i did all that rotating in the FStorm RT Render window ^^

Almost funny, I can't seem to get a background plate to show up wherever I put it? If I want a sky background in my render that rotates with my environment map, how would I do that?

What do you mean by "background plate" ?

            Max environment is ignored.
If you want a background in fstorm use Environment rollout from Render Setup. Assign it a FStormSky as texture, or FStormBitmap for your own.

Normally (in other renderers) it is difficult to balance the background environment to the rendered environment so I'm typically using a separate background plate version of the HDRI in the Max environment map.

                Hi Benny,

You are correct, unlike every other render engine, FStorm and Octane have the limitation where they can not show a environment image independent from the hdri lighting image. Hopefully Karba's ingenuity will find a solution to this one day.

For now there are only crappy ways such as physical geometry with a background map on or you can activate 'process alpha' in your FStorm kernel settings and set a viewport background image in max via ( alt+b) and link to an image file via the 'use files' link....however....this will only be seen in the RT buffer and have to be comped after final render.

Thanks Zealous, that explains it and good to know. I guess it is back to the good old inverted dome...
