  • FStorm CUDA compatibility requirements

    Hi all,

    I would like to know how FStorm and CUDA are related to each other ?

    The reason I'm asking has to do with long term support of rendering projects
    - with each new NVIDIA graphics card series NVIDIA introduce a new CUDA version

    for example:

    Card
    GeForce RTX 4090 -----> Compute Capability 8.9
    GeForce RTX 3090 -----> Compute Capability 8.6
    Geforce RTX 2080 Ti -----> Compute Capability 7.5
    GeForce GTX 1080 Ti -----> Compute Capability 6.1
    GeForce GTX 980 Ti -----> Compute Capability 5.2

    - some Software which used a older CUDA version when released does not run on newer CUDA versions until the software itself has been updated to the latest CUDA version.

    My specific questions:
    - if I create a rendering project today and I render with a specific FStorm version
    can this specific FStorm version run in a couple of years on a newer graphics card (with possibly higher CUDA compute version) ?

    Simply said, a FStorm version which had been running with a GTX 1080Ti at time X is also able (same FStorm version) to run on a RTX 4090 ?

    Thanks for feedback
    Tim

    Hi
    You can install 7 years old fstrom version and it will work with 4090.
