i have a render i have setup to render 30000 samples but i noticed it finished before that and the render is stil not 100 percent noise free, what is causing it to not render to the end? i am assuming rendering longer would do the trick

What do you mean finished before? doesn't it reach 30000 samples?

no it didn't, seems like it stops at some value where it thinks the render is good enough and stops to render

Karba yeah it happened again, this time i set it to a really high number and the render stopped after 2 hours when it should take more than 24 hours so am wondering what causes that

          If i'm right...

Estimation time is based on time to rendering the last frame/pass, and

"noise threshold sets acceptible noise level. Render stops sampling image areas with lower noise level and concentrates on areas with higher noise level."

therefore varies according to the noise level of each frame area.

          if for 10 frames
          frame1 takes 1min to rendering then it shows 10min estimated (10x1min) remaining 9min (9x1min) elapsed 1min
          frame2 takes 2min then it shows 19min estimated (1x1min + 9x2min) remaining 16min (8x2min) elapsed 3min (2+1)
          frame3 takes 30s then it shows 7min estimated (1x1min + 1x2min + 8x30s) remaining 3min30s (7x30s) elapsed 3min30s (2+1+30s)

does it say 10000/30000 when it stops? or what?

not sure, the render window disappears, is there away to see that window at the end?

I see. You use production render.
What you can do is decrease noise threshold.

aha, so that essentially prolongs the render, what about gi clam and speeding up the render, i saw you have some formula online, should one always use the formula and for every scene, 1/ exposure value? or is this in some specific situations?

Is it possible to have a time limit added ? . I find Its a lot easier to set a time limit than it is to figure out how many samples and noise threshold is needed to render for a certain time.
This is just for rendering stills, as It's easier to let them render for 4-5 hours overnight. I can pretty much guarantee 4 to 5 hours is generally enough for what I have been rendering lately.

                    cheers
