  • Displacement Subdivs Controls

    Hi there,

Does anyone know how/where the subdivs amount for the new FStormDisplacement is controled?
I've used the modifier, and it worked pretty well; but I have no idea how it subdivides my surfaces ...

    Thank you

I'm not sure but I think fstorm displacement works without adding geometry. If you are not satisfied with your outcome just increase the power accordingly (works above 1). Most times I'm using around 4--8 depending on the displacement maps.

I'm testing FStorm Displacement with a single-polygon plane, and it works perfectly. So for sure it adds geometry.
As I see, the Power option multiplies the the displace amount, and doesn't directly control the polygon count created by Displacement ...

Think subdiv are just gradient based. Perfect gradient = perfect subdiv... I think.

This is what I get according to your comment : The amount of subdivs is not equal every where; the closer the polygons to the camera, the more they're subdivided by Displacement. And the amount of subdivs for a defined distance is determined by the engine.

      Is that right?

    Hey guys,

Regarding displacement subdivision, this's what written in the news section : "FStorm displacement doesn't do geometry tessellation and uses very few gpu memory."
So my question exists : How does FStorm Displacement is working for a single-polygon plane, if it does not add geometry??
