    - - UPDATED - -

Almost Default Settings all engines (see files).
Can someone optimize the FStorm scene (but maintain the look) and upload the max-file (v2014, please no "hints")? Karba?
    Come on guys

I think the denoiser works great. Sure, the scene is as simple as it gets but for interiors with white walls it's perfect.
Again, would be great to have it in FStorm too.
Corona almost instantly starts to render the scene, very impressive. Octane and FStorm need a few seconds until everything is loaded into the vram.

First thing I noticed was shadows. FS working more to get better noiseless result particularly shadow area and brights (FS looking a lot better than Octane).
Speed vs quality balance there I guess.

I also like the look of FStorm better; looks more defined and punchy. The lampshade in Octane almost merges with the wall.
Regarding noise, I think Octane is almost cleaner. Take a look at the floor under the table and chair.

Agree Octane less noise but theoretically should be as there is next to no contrast range so very flat by comparison, FS has the nice brights through to the defined shadow more to work on as far as noise

Nice comparison. I do like the fstorm better.

Go look at my maxwell v4 gpu render comparison. Fstorm killed it.

Yes I did - very interesting. Sad to see that they're too late and too slow.
Can you try this scene in Maxwell? Maintaining the look and camera.

It's a 7zip file. You have to extract it...

(only changed GI clamp to 0.1 (from 1) and portal power to 4 (from 1)
with more light noise clears faster (compared to the original image it's somewhat brighter )

          for comparison

maxwell gtx1070 60m (SL19, maxwell benchmark ~4150, which is over 10x faster than cpu, but the features are not the same atm e.g. cannot render multilight with gpu yet)
(physical sky, no portals nor emitters instead)

how is the scene lite? I downloaded it (dl the wrong one earlier) and I see a missing hdri and a sun on the left. Are you just activation global illumnination and thats it?

Should be sun & sky only. Ignore the hdri.

Wow, great work guys! downloaded file and my times:

              3:07 on GTX1070 w/OC (2000 samples 100% with tweaks as per antonyebl)
              FStorm 3.3 (Latest)

Brings into question again scalability of multiple GPU. I wonder if textured model then we would see more of a speed increase multiple GPU setup vs single GPU.

                3:07 on a 1070 oc'd and 4:31 on factory settings?
If you increase the portal strength it will probably render faster but I wanted to maintain the look; the one from Antony is too bright and blown out. It's a light grey material but there it looks like pure white.
                Can you upload your render/file?

As per post added - couldn't add image to comment. If your second image on your first post saying you used Antons settings then is that the correct image?

I overlooked the (exposure) override on Cam_Day, that's why my original test is overexposed.
I also had (environment) importance sampling on (which seems to have slowed down the render), doing a couple more tests now, will post the result in a bit.

            • #13
ok pretty damn good with maxwell, its my primary render.... but i dont see this scene lighting up like the other renders you guys posted . Maxswell tends to be very very accurate with light. And if you look at your renders, thats not natural how the renders came out. too white washed. unless you activate the portals. but let me tweak it more.

oh... one more question...... are you all rendering this at 2500 by 1406?
