  • standard maps and a floater tool bar...

I know that by nesting multiple mix maps I can walk around the fact of not having a composite map, you can finish with the exact same result, but it’s not even close as practical

It would be a huge, huge plus if in a future you can implement a composite map like the standard from 3dstudio, or even better implement a function that let the users use the 3d studio standard maps and perform a “translation” in the background, at least with the most basic ones, the bitmap, composite, noise, fall off…

You could do a floater too, with options to create your lights, camera, insert a fstorm material, perform scene conversion, maybe even a control to the render iterations or an input for the fstorm bg/reflection override

Mixing 10 textures is never a good idea by the way. It renders slow and in most cases it means you are not sure what you do.

    What is floater?

a floater is a toolbar like the one that vray have, with dedicated buttons to create cameras, lights, materials, all from a single toolbar instead of having to navigate by the max interface

did a toolbar for fstorm already, but max only let me add a few options: objects propierties, scene convertion, RT, light lister and proxy exporter

I think this is just an interface detail and it won’t impact in the render time in any way, and it’s always a very convenient complement to have

A list of the options the floater could have, some of those are self-explanatory :
Fstorm object properties / shows the Fstorm properties for the selected objects
      Fstorm Light lister
      Create Fstorm spherical light
      Create Fstorm rectangular light
      Create Fstorm sun
      -
      Create Fstorm standard camera
      Create Fstorm spherical camera
Convert scene to 3d / override the stereo in all the Fstorm cameras to… left right? I would use that by default instead of the top button
      -
Convert scene to Fstorm / set Fstorm as the production renderer and do a full scene conversion, if fstorm is already the production renderer just do a full scene conversion
Convert lights to Fstorm lights/ convert all the lights to fstorm lights
Convert materials to Fstorm materials / convert all the materials to fstorm materials
Insert Fstorm material/ insert a new Fstorm material in to the slate or in the selected slot in the compact material editor
Fstorm maps/ convert all the maps in the scenes to Fstorm equivalent

I made on for myself too, but only managed to add a few options (of which only tree that I actually use)
RT, Light Lister, and scene conversion
could you add options to create materials, lights, cameras, etc?? and in this case could you send it to me?? haha, thank you very much

Yeah, already managed about create. Except mat for now.

But what do you mean about convert? Do you know converter exist? just check what you want in render setup...

About product mode you abuse xD you are not a serial converter...

haha, serial converter over here... what happen is I'm in the middle of a something now and I don’t have all the time I’d wish to dedicate on this matter, so instead of creating scenes from zero I'm converting the scenes from vray

sorry I don’t catch the product mode part, I’m not a native English speaker, but what I mean when I say convert lights, for example, is a button to convert the lights and no other things, and from a toolbar without having to dive in to the render options, going to scene conversion and uncheck all things I don’t want to convert and leaving only the lights checked, just a simple button to convert all the lights or maybe a button to convert the selected lights, which could help you when you have a scene fully created in fstorm to insert a standard Sun from max, put all the data the way you like: hours, minutes, etc. and then by pushing that button convert your fully configured Sun into an equivalent fstorm Sun

for the camera, just the same, any time you hit ctrl+c max creates a standard camera, maybe you already have a fully created fstorm scene but you want another camera at certain point of view that you like, it would be useful to have a button that allow you to select this camera and convert it in a fstorm camera…

the maps conversion maybe is the most useful, you drag all your textures to the slate or to the compact material editor and automatically max put a standard bitmap for eache one… a button to convert all this maps in fstorm maps without you having to convert each one by one or inserting a fstorm bitmap and selecting the map etc, because… you know, it’s way better to drag n’ drop than going thru menus

so with your tool bar again, do you managed to create rectangular lights, spherical lights, Sun, cameras and spherical cameras???
